a poem by Misti Rainwater-Lites

Easter Comes

like me on the rag
sprawled out shameless
accepting the wagging tongue
of my lover, my husband

Easter is a holy time
even for atheists
even atheists must confess
pastel M&M's taste better
bunny and chick-shaped marshmallows
are pretty goddamn cute

we all have crosses to bear
some of us rise glowing
some of us bunker down
in the tomb
and tell the curious world
to go fuck
itself
