Domestic Tale

His clenched fist was a heart closed
for business. Her smile a will
underwater. Their home a wildfire's
raw kindling -- shame smoldering
in the baseboards. Their child's face
a whole country grieving. The neighbors
a green graveyard whistling. The blue
police a beat too late.
