a poem by Jonathan Hine

TIMES ARE HARD

everything crumbling
to pieces on all sides
everything seems
so eager to go wrong
in any way imaginable
face against
that brick wall
as the hours wither away
trying to barter with
asphalt chunks
& old tin cans
just another colossal fuck-up
as they waste your time
with lofty platitudes
& shit-eating grins
