a poem by Dana Dickerson

Ode to a former employer

Cutthroat business tactics
are not dreams to live by
You don't look at the stars at night
and dream of animal possibilities
You don't have culture heroes
you have only the false promise
from the stolen heart of a pawnbroker
Every time I feel sympathy for you
I am met by your blank mechanical eyes
The working man is done
this is the age of perpetual redundancy
the epoch of idiocy
"Would you care for a micro-manage-mint?"
They're zero calories
they've already been dissolved
in the greedy mouths of the elite
Phantom treats for the hollow consumer
Dead-eyed dream assassins
YOU CAN'T FIRE ME
I resign
