a poem by J.J. Campbell (1 of 2)

the chance to just let go

smiling faces
dancing in and
out of the fires
of hell

naïve to the
world

trouble is just
a cool middle
name

i sit back and
marvel

recall how i
never got the
chance to just
let go and live

none of them
ever notice me
sitting in the
background

i take a beer
for the road
and slink out
a side exit

off to flirt
with the
notion of
recapturing
my youth

the older i
get the better
i am with these
foolish
endeavors
