a poem by Joanna M. Weston

THE GIRL ON THE BARSTOOL

she lifts a glass
for the security cameras
directs a flaccid wave
to the barkeep
who slides
another rye-and-ginger
to her hand

a young man dared
the next door stool
she stared him
out of a beer
no one tried again
