a poem by Mathias Nelson

Preach

van Gogh's face covered with coal,
hunched in the shadows.
Eyes glowing yellow, sunk
beneath his blackened brow.
Ear but a blotch of red, heart
but a long stream of undrunk love
wrapping around your feet.
He whispers, "Do not blame God
for the artist made this world
on one of his bad days
when wits weren't about him."
