a poem by Mike Meraz

I Don't Know, I Guess...

when there is make-up,
high-heels and cleavage
it all works.
I mean, I am not all bad.
but when the body
is stripped down
to its nothingness,
to the soul,
to the heart of the matter,
when the illusion is gone,
and the front of beauty
has been overtaken
by the reality of truth,
you start to realize
Solomon, Jesus
and Buddha
were
right.
