a poem by Joseph Hargraves

Trailer Park Literati at 13

I listened to Mozart
in the trailer-park,

until the washing machine
caused the tin can home
to shake--

causing
the record player's
arm to dance over
"Don Giovanni."

I looked up from
Dostoevsky's The Idiot,
while waiting for
everything to stop
vibrating,

grateful
for photographs
of my only friend,
Nijinsky--

and my good taste
in shoplifting.
