THE IGNORANCE

I've missed the 2.00 a.m.
traffic on Main Street
slept through fights
on the corner of Broadway
picked no needles or condoms
from dawn alleys

I know of them from the media
been angered over homelessness
grieved at AIDS and HIV
but my knowledge is second-hand smoke
drifting past like the smell of Monday morning
