HOLY CRAP!
IT'S THE GUIDELINES!
Send us your writing! To qualify
that statement, here's a few hints:
-
Edgy is good. Poignant is good.
Gritty is good. Raunchy is good.
Disturbing is good. Humorous is
good. Cynical is good. Manic is
good. Provocative is good. And
ass-kicking is good...very good.
- Have something to say. Say it well.
Be original.
- Questions about the guidelines (or
Gutter Eloquence in general) go to:
info AT guttereloquence DOT com
- E-zine submissions only go to:
editor AT guttereloquence DOT com
- For PRINT EDITION submissions,
the email address and additional
guidelines can be found
here.
- For e-zine poetry submissions, the
subject line of your email must read
"Submission - Your Name" (without
quotes, and with the author's name
replacing the phrase "Your Name").
- We accept submissions by email
only.
- Please read complete guidelines
and an issue or two of the zine
before sending anything--unless
you're sending money (ha ha).
-
Submissions for the next issue
of the G.E.M. e-zine will be open
from May 5th through June 10th.

Submission Guidelines, cont'd:
-
Note to previous contributors:
If your work has appeared in two
consecutive issues, please skip
an issue before submitting again.
- Gutter Eloquence Magazine seeks
submissions of free verse poetry--
from May 5th through June 10th.
- We really, really aren't interested
in rhyming poetry...sorry.
- No horror or sci-fi.
- NO simultaneous submissions.
- We do NOT accept previously
published material, except by
invitation (as of issue #2). And
all work must be your own.
- Length isn't a major concern, but
please, please, no epic poems. To
paraphrase the words of a friend:
"Be kind to your readers."
- The editor reserves the right to
edit accepted poems as needed.
But as a rule, revisions are done
sparingly and with restraint.
- 1 submission = 3 to 5 poems (no
more, no less). Either paste them
in the body of ONE email or send
them all in ONE doc or rtf file. Use
only standard fonts (Arial, Times
New Roman or Courier New), in
10 to 12 point size.
- Subs must be accompanied by a
brief cover letter and a brief, third-
person bio. It's okay to list a few
publication credits, but remember:
it's a bio, not a publishing résumé!
And remember: the acceptance
or rejection of poems is based
on their quality, style, etc.--
regardless of your reputation
or past accomplishments.
- If you want your writing to be pub-
lished with a pseudonym on your
byline, you must state that at the
time that you send in your work.
- If you want your personal photo
(mug shot) to appear with your bio,
feel free to send a pic with your
submission. Must be JPG format,
no more than 250 pixels wide,
no more than 350 pixels high.
- Don't submit more than once per
submission period.
- We normally respond to sub-
missions within 30 days or less.
- If your work is accepted, and if it
appears on a blog or other forum,
it'll need to be removed from the
blog / forum immediately after you
receive word of acceptance. Once
the issue following yours is online,
you're free to re-post it.
- By submitting your work to us,
you give us the right to publish
it online once, then to archive
it here forever.
Otherwise, all rights revert to you
(the author) upon publication. If
you submit your work elsewhere
afterward, please give credit to
Gutter Eloquence Magazine for
first publication of the piece.
- Regarding payment: as this is a
free electronic publication with no
cash flow, the only payment is the
satisfaction of seeing your work
published online, potentially to be
exposed to millions of illiterates
worldwide...we sincerely hope.
All poems are © by
their respective authors.
